Secondary College and Career Readiness Counselor...



Job Goal: Provide training and technical assistance to support secondary counselors in the region regarding course selections and credit accrual pathways for post-secondary career, college and/or military readiness.

Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Education or Counseling
  • Texas Teacher Certification
  • Certified Counselor
  • Minimum three years serving as a counselor in a high school setting providing secondary academic advisory and career guidance
  • Training and experience working with CTE programs of study and student advisory for building future career paths
  • Experience in planning, developing, and presenting professional development to adults
Special Knowledge and Skills:
  • High degree of professionalism including strong organizational, communication, and public relations skills
  • Ability to establish rapport and work in collaboration with public school, ESC and state personnel
  • Ability to prepare and provide professional development to educators of all levels
  • Knowledge of high school master scheduling, programs of study, and course articulation pathways
  • Knowledge of federal Perkins funding requirements
  • Working knowledge and experience with student career counseling, academic advisory, graduation requirements, advanced coursework and a wide array of post-secondary opportunities
  • Ability to effectively work with diverse personalities
  • Ability to effectively work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision
  • Ability to utilize current technology platforms and software
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Respond to clients' needs in a courteous and timely manner with current, accurate information
  • Utilize distance learning technologies for meetings/technical assistance/trainings
  • Follow all federal, state, and ESC guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships between the ESC and LEAs
  • Maintain all internal and external required program paperwork and program documentation and submit by requested deadlines
  • Other duties as may be assigned  
  • Assist secondary school counselors with master scheduling to maximize college readiness opportunities for students, especially those who are at-risk.
  • Facilitate and provide training opportunities in advanced coursework and college entry criteria (AP, IB, preparation SAT and ACT)
  • Provide support to secondary counselors in the areas of:
    • Graduation requirements
    • GPA calculation
    • CCMR accountability
    • Transcripts and transcript evaluation
    • Early College High School modeling
    • Course selection process – both academic and career
  • Assist secondary schools with master scheduling to maximize access to CTE coursework in various programs of study
  • Collaborate with CTE and other ESC program area staff to provide training and support to secondary counselors in the region regarding CTE programs of study coursework and be able to enhance offerings
  • Support LEA staff at all levels in understanding the benefits of individualized programs of study based on career clusters and pathways for career readiness
  • Collaborate with CTE staff to conduct regional professional development and technical assistance activities as specified in grant guidelines related to career guidance
  • Support ESC efforts to provide career exploration opportunities for middle school and high school students including student conferences
  • Follow guidelines and reporting deadlines provided by the TEA
  • Plan and facilitate networking meetings and disseminate information to update secondary counselor contacts in a timely manner
  • Attend all required TEA meetings, conferences and TETNs
